Back to Basics

Yesterday I read an article about Wendy's International - the square burger that made Dave Thomas famous.

They've decided to go back to the basic burger.

Over the years Wendy's has purchased other restaurants, expanded their menu and moved away from the primary focus of a square burger made fresh to order.

With the exception of a tough 2005 in same-store sales, they have enjoyed a consistent growth. But in a recent interview the CEO, Anderson, was quoted as saying:

'Over time we have kind of not focused on what business we're in and we're in the core hamburger business,' interim Chief Executive Officer and President Kerrii Anderson told The Associated Press in a telephone interview.

Has the same happened to you?

In an effort to please everyone have you spread yourself so thin that you are no longer focused on the reason you went into business in the first place?

Can you point to a single niche that you satisfy or are you doing a little bit of everything and consequently not doing anything well?

I recommend we take our lead from Wendy's - let's get back to basics.
