It's an exciting day! The 1,000 post mark. I didn't get here alone, as there have been several superior bloggers writing on BizInformer since it began in July 2005. Jim Logan was the first blogger - a WONDERFUL writer with a fantastic point of view. Jim writes regularly on his blog covering sales and lead generating topics, customer service, branding, you name it.
For this 1,000th post I'd like to tell you about my son's sociology
teacher Kevin Irvine.Open house for the high school was Wednesday night and the process requires parents to fumble their way from class to class with only 5 minutes to leave the class you are in and find the next without getting lost. And no - your teen can't come and help. It's a free for all!
Sociology is Ben's second period class and we walked into a typical classroom environment to be greeted by friendly music reminiscent of something you'd hear poolside in the Bahamas.
Mr. Irvine welcomed us warmly and with great animation. He briefly reviewed the course outline and shared that the students would be debating significantly controversial topics throughout the 18 week course. He believes in creating an environment of trust where students feel safe sharing their thoughts and opinions.
Hmmmm, ever had a work environment like that? Don't you wish you did? A place where your ideas were welcomed not ridiculed?
Mr. Irvine went on to say he had only four rules in his class. The FOUR P'S.
PROMPT
POLITE
PREPARED
PARTICIPATE
He said that he believes if each student exhibited these behaviors it would make for a successful school year.
But aren't those same four P's of value in family, in church, in our community and in our business?
It seems so simple and yet totally encompasses all we need to know or do.
So I leave you with those four P's on this our 1,000 post. And I ask you - do you live the four P's in your business? Do your team members? What would happen if you started the next meeting or project stating that these were the only expectations? What would be the end result?
I wonder.
Thanks so much for reading us here at BizInformer and I hope you'll keep coming back!
