There are a lot of great things about working for yourself or owning a business, being your own boss is for many a lifetime dream. Stress is a side benefit for many of us.

When you work for yourself, every hat in the business sits upon your head – sales marketing, accounting, legal, contract negotiations, customer service, etc. The burden of every opportunity and risk is borne on your shoulders. The pressure can at times be overwhelming.

The consequences to your health can be disastrous.

People deal with stress is different ways. Some exercise, mediate, talk openly with loved ones, seek more rest, and literally walk away from time to time. Others take more destructive paths of dealing with stress with alcohol and drug use. Stress can transcend personal harm to threaten family and marital relationships.

Stress is bad. And to deal with it you need a plan.

    Great post — thanks. New research shows that stress actually shrinks the frontal lobe sections of the brain — making well being less and less possible for people who live with and do not take care of stress. Thanks for the good and doable ideas here.
