Do You Make Lemonade?

Have you heard of Murphy's Law?
You know – the feeling that perhaps you woke up on the wrong side of the bed, or the phrase "every good deed gets punished?"
It must happen a lot because we have created a series of phrases to depict the feeling.
But the question is: when everything seems to go wrong, what do you do?
Okay, so here is a recap of my three-day weekend:
Our house has been on the market in a State where houses just aren't selling and the choice for buyers is unlimited.
The good news?
Saturday night we received an acceptable contract for our house just 6 weeks after putting it on the market.
The bad news?
We have to be out in 25 days. Actually, that's not the bad news – I LOVE a challenge.
The really bad news?
The very next morning, my van loaded to the brim with boxes, I backed right into the garage door frame, badly damaging the wood. And if you just thought to yourself "woman driver" consider your mouth washed out with soap!
That's okay. I have a friend who will replace the board by the week's end.
My agent schedules the house viewing for my next home during normal church hours so I decide to get up at 7am and go to the 8am service.
The good news?
Well, the fact that the house sold – I wanted to give thanks.
The bad news?
I didn't realize that the 8am service had been cancelled as of the first of the year due to lack of attendance. I could have slept in.
That's okay. I came home and whipped up some fresh baked goods for my waking family.
The good news?
They smell and taste terrific.
The bad news?
I received 2nd degree burns taking the pans out of the oven and now I have burns and open blisters on my left hand.
Um, that's okay. No really, it's okay, I only use that hand half the time.
I don't want to bore you, but let's just cut to the chase – my entire weekend was a series of taking one step forward only to be pushed back two.
I thought of the book: When Bad Things Happen to Good People
But then I realized – in the great scheme of things – did anything happen that was really that bad?
Of course not.
Today is Martin Luther King Jr. Day – a day to recognize and celebrate life and purpose and equality and a never flagging spirit that even in the face of extreme oppression and challenge – continued forward with a positive attitude and a vision of a life where all men and women were treated equally and had the same opportunities. Talk about someone who faced challenges and disappointments with a smile and a positive attitude!
What movie is it – it's a comedy, and the character says "I LAUGH in the face of danger – Ha Ha Ha!" and then has a maniacal laugh? Well, let's not take it that far, but hopefully when life hands you lemons, you whip up a lovely lemon meringue pie and a smile. And if you do – let me know, it is my Dad's favorite dessert.
So what do you do when Murphy's Law strikes?
