Finding a Job with Social Media

Mashable has a piece by Dan Schawbel (Personal Branding Blog) on how to use social media to find a job.

Schawbel is a little more upbeat about LinkedIn than I was last week. But he make some of the same points that I did: services like LinkedIn become more valuable if you actually need them. I'm not job hunting…

The piece makes some excellent points about the need to think in terms of real people (instead of Twitter profiles and Facebook accounts). It also gives tips about how to successfully advertise yourself and your brand. And Schawbel takes a very broad approach to social media – even looking at how you can use YouTube.

You can read the piece here.

Years ago, I actually landed a job by creating a short introductory microsite with a welcome video. It’s a great way to get past gatekeepers and set yourself apart.

It does prepare you for basic level entry into SEO SEM if think creatively. The rules for this industry can never be written entirely, because for sure, to be sure, we are now entering a period of continual change. To be even cornier its the fast lane or no lane.
