Operations
by Deborah Brown on March 10, 2007

My children are reaching the age of independence and I'm reminded that these pieces of knowledge need to be passed on and they are only in my head.
Switch gears to business and the same can be said: most of what I do to run my business is only in my head.
So what. You may say.
Well, it is a big deal because the fact that the processes of my business are not on paper holds me back from expanding and leaves me unprotected should I be out of commission - in both cases it would be next to impossible for someone else to step in and keep my business running.
Do you have your operational processes on paper? Have you taken the time to write out, step-by-step how you do what you do?
Okay, scary update. I figured I'd look at Amazon, Technorati, etc for some great links on writing an operational manual. Maybe a workbook that helps you think through the steps of writing down your processes.
NOTHING. I found nothing.
Okay. So does that mean it's okay for it to all be in our head, or I didn't do a proper search or maybe I just found the subject of my next book?
