Life Lessons at 50

Today is my 50th birthday.
I love birthdays. I believe birthdays should be anticipated, celebrated, embraced and shouted from the Rooftops
. I have a really big pin that says "today is my birthday" and I make all of my family members wear it on their special day so that those around them have an opportunity to join in the celebration fun. I'm wearing it today.
I'm not big on gifts (well, maybe one or two) but I am big on thoroughly enjoying every moment of the anniversary of my birth. This being a big birthday, I've collected 50 things that I've learned over the years and here are just a few:
1. Honesty is the only policy
2. Smile first - it will be reciprocated.
3. The customer is always right, even when they aren't.
4. Perception is reality.
5. Listen closely. It's a gift that shows you care.
6. Be willing to fail.
7. Ask for help - it's NOT a sign of weakness, rather it's a sign of intelligence. AND it's a gift you give the person whose help you've asked.
8. Say thank you. We often ask but seldom thank.
9. Don't assume you know what your value is. Ask a customer. You will be surprised by the answer.
10. No one fires an employee - they fire themselves.
11. Refunds start at the beginning of the sale. So pay attention from the start.
12. "Kill 'em with kindness" is easier said than done...but it works.
13. Be a mentor - give back.
14. Celebrate your birthday like it's the 4th of July, Christmas and Easter all rolled into one. After all it was the day you were born and you, my friend, are a person of value.
Here is the complete list of the 50 things I've learned in 50 years.
Thanks, Mom and Dad!
