Marketing the games with the Gospel

This was a fascinating article in the Sunday Cleveland Plain Dealer about how more and more businesses are marketing to Christians as a focused market. Would this work for your business?

As far as the postseason goes, the Indians haven't had a prayer for months.

That won't be the case today, however. Although it will have absolutely no bearing on the playoffs, the team will host its first Catholic Family Day, with a 10:30 a.m. Mass in right field preceding the afternoon game against the Minnesota Twins. About 850 fans are expected to attend.

The marriage of religion and athletics is nothing new.

The Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) began in the 1930s in Chicago and developed into a group that offered social services and athletics for Catholic youngsters. Athletes in Action was founded in 1966 as a ministry of the Campus Crusade for Christ. Youth for Christ began in the 1940s and has an association with the Indians dating to the days of Municipal Stadium. Mark Price and the Cavaliers held postgame gospel concerts at Richfield Coliseum.
