Starting a Business? DON’T!

Looking for a way to turn people off? Tell them all the things they CAN’T DO. Have you ever been to a locally owned shop and all you see are signs that SCREAM at you?

NO CHECKS

NO CREDIT CARDS

NO CASH REFUNDS

NO SHIRT/NO SHOES/NO SERVICE

NO RETURNS

NO PUBLIC RESTROOM

Well, I just read an article at Business Opportunities Weblog that struck me the same way – the 20 things not to do when starting a business. Actually the list is a valid one – some things – like don’t buy office supplies – are a little extreme but the point writer Dan Carlson is trying to make is this:

if you are going to start a business, don’t wait for the perfect logo, the perfect company name, the right networking groups to join, the exact legal entity to create – GO OUT AND FIND A CUSTOMER.

You aren’t really in business until someone buys something you are offering, whether that is a service or a product.

It’s just the Pollyanna in me that prefers articles that teach me from a positive perspective. What would you add to this list of Dana’s?
