The Long Tail
I am reading the new book by Chris Anderson of Wired Magazine based on his earlier article called The Long Tail, Why the Future of Business is Selling Less of More.

As I am reading it I find myself thinking about how this concept applies to things other than business. First a brief explanation of the premise of the book: "Our world is being transformed by the Internet and the near limitless choice it provides to consumer."

Here a couple of areas of application I wonder about.

How about friendships? Can I have thousands of friends now of a certain level instead of just one or two really strong ones? Will they be just as satisfying? Is that what all the social networking buzz is all about?

How about Romance? If I can connect to millions of potential individuals for relationships because of the Internet will that change the nature of love and romance?

First off I recommend the book, second what else do you think it can be applied to?
