The Ties that Bind Sometimes Use a Slip Knot

This week Britney Spears text messaged her divorce desires to Kevin, her husband of two years.

It's been a month of strong, successful women leaving husbands whose careers have not shown as brightly.

Reese Witherspoon and husband Ryan Phillippe announced recently that they were also calling it quits. Reese is the highest paid actress, receiving a reported $29 million for her latest movie and Ryan will receive 1/2 of her assets upon divorcing.

Half.

Did he bring 14.5 million dollars in value to the relationship?

I only bring this up because as women-owned business are on the rise, so are their liabilities should their marital relationship hit the rocks. Depending on the state, a woman can own 100% of her business, her husband having contributed nothing but the occasional neck rub when times get tough, and yet he can demand 1/2 of the value of her business.

Half.

My stomach hurts.

I'm just saying...the article today on MSN Entertainment "Lady Stars Leaving Lessor Spouses Behind" struck a chord.

What do you think?
