Why I Hate Women Business Groups

Written by Mary Schmidt for The Microenterprise Journal
In a recent committee meeting, we were getting bogged down, trying to come to consensus, considering all potential viewpoints, and so on. One of our members finally burst out, "Can we just stop talking and do something?" Need I note that the committee was all women?
Now, I don't think there is anything better than a woman leader or manager. There is also nothing worse than a woman leader or manager. Our strengths are also our greatest weaknesses. We're generally multi-tasking, considerate and group-oriented. All of which can also keep us from actually doing anything.
Also, we can revert back to our basic biological programming where the other woman is the "enemy." Thank goodness that programming is gradually changing as more of us rise through the ranks of business and realize we no longer have to compete for the male.

Okay, Steve, love ya, but the title started my blood pressure rising and YES, I know you didn’t write the article and YES I know it was written by a woman, however, I feel the article is just a little bit too generalizing. Not ALL women are like that. I multi-task with the best of them but I can make a decision, move on a project, take it through to the finish line and then some. The description painted here of women that needs to have consensus before acting on a decision is unfair and untrue. I am on the Board of the Women’s Network and believe me, we wouldn’t be where we are today if we didn’t make decisions, delegate the responsibilities and “get busy.”
Furthermore, there are MEN who fit the description Mary paints better than some women I know. I’m just saying….
Okay. I feel better now.

Happy to help get a rise out of you. I agree, most women business professionals I have worked with are very decisive, proactive and astute business people. Men on the other hand…
