I'm not sure, but women are certainly on the rise in this country in business.
In the Fortune 500 only 8.7% of businesses were run by women in 1995 and just ten years later than number has doubled.
Wells fargo/Gallup Small Business Index states that women business owners have now surpassed the 10 million mark nationwide. When asked about their optimism for the future, 95% feel they are successful, 60% expect their companies' revenues to increase in the next year and 43% say they earn more per hour as a small business owner.
In the October 16th edition of Fortune magazine, the 50 Most Powerful Women were featured with Indra Rising, CEO of PepsiCo leading the way.
I'm reminded of a television commercial from the 70's in which a scantily-clad woman opens the door at the end of the day to her man. The vocalist sings:
"I can bring home the bacon,
Fry it up in the pan
And never, ever let you
Forget you're a man.
Cuz I'm a woman...
W.O.M.A.N."
Helen Reddy's theme song of the 70's "I am Woman Hear Me Roar" seemed rather campy at the time. And remember the Virginia Slims ad "You've come a long way baby?"
Well, ain't it the truth.
