Hello reader. I'm an American businesswoman, lawyer by training, risk management consultant and mother of two young boys. A much wiser man than I once proclaimed to truly understand a person and their motivation you must first understand their experiences it's your experiences and lessons learned in life that shape your opinion, determination, goals, judgment, outlook, and reactions to adversity. Following are my most influential experiences and lessons learned:
In two decades of professional sales, marketing and customer service life - including executive management at both public and private technology companies, serving Fortune 100, government, and international markets, the most influential lessons I've learned on life and business originated from my time in the US Navy. Two lessons in particular I learned while in the military, that continues to influence and guide my life, are the power of understanding and applying principles, and to continuously pursue knowledge.
In my military education I was taught a thorough understanding of principles and fundamentals of any subject are what give you the confidence and ability to adjust to changing environments and react appropriately to events you can't control. You never know what situation youll find yourself in professionally; you need the ability to think and apply knowledge to what may be unknown and evolving scenarios. Preparing for the known is not the objective; the objective is to prepare for the unknown and the only way to do that is to truly understand the underlying principles, fundamentals, laws, and rules that govern your topic of choice. This teach a man to fish and big picture approach to learning has paid tremendous wealth to my family over the years. I am eternally grateful for being taught to learn in this manner.
I ended my military studies as an honor graduate with a 94.7% grade. In a meeting with a superior just prior to graduation, I was told: "Be proud of your accomplishments, but never forget it's the 5.3% you don't know that matters the most. Never stop pursuing the 5.3%, always seek the complete understanding and mastery of everything you do." I have never forgotten the meaning of that conversation and continue to pursue my 5.3% in all endeavors. This site is part of that never-ending pursuit.
It was my pleasure, good fortune, and incredible good luck that while in the military I served at the White House; working with and around the most talented and dedicated people imagined at the White House Communications Agency. I've never since worked with a group of people that better understood often trivialized words such as honor, duty, and teamwork. There, during President G. H. W. Bush and President Reagan's time in office, I learned another great lesson in life and business that influences me today - failure is not an acceptable outcome. It's amazing what can be achieved when you eliminate failure as a potential result of any undertaking. Without the acceptance of failure, your creativity, determination, and resourcefulness are peaked; at best you can only experience momentary set-backs, nothing is impossible.
I've had the pleasure of traveling around the world, having conducted face-to-face business in 14 countries in Europe, Middle East, Asia, North and South America. The most important lesson I learned in my travels is how similar people are around the world. Shared desire, concern, appreciation, pride, and creativity - I've experienced the best of a global economy. I've had the opportunity to open and extend markets around the world and have gained a wealth of knowledge on business from countless people of different cultures that unfortunately will never know how they've positively influenced my thinking and approach to win/win business relationships.
Please let me know how best I can serve you and your interests. I welcome you to join me in this site and my pursuit of the 5.3% of business excellence.
"With dedication and desire, there is nothing in life that is unachievable."
